TP MIX #124 – Mass Digital

Serbian artist Mass Digital has one simple philosophy: Do what you love and make no compromises”, resulting in an unstoppable imagination and nearly compulsive nature to make music once inspiration hits. The producer has recently released his latest EP, Viaje De La Vida via All Day I Dream with subtle melodies meeting carefully crafted electronic embellishments at each turn. The title track of the EP flirts with sombre tones, while including lighter and more ethereal synths to balance it out. What follows is a mixture between ambient and dance: a unique space with endless potential in the right hands.

Mass Digital has also treated fans with a carefully crafted mix, which you can find here:

Set the tone for us. Why the arts?

Even when I was a child, I loved music. Every day I played father’s tapes all day and later, vinyl. Music is my life and my mission to warm the hearts around the globe. Yeah, I’m a heart warmer 😀

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?

I always start with an idea, especially melody. Then after focusing on drums and groove.

I get my ideas listening to the various music, radio or even during the day all of a sudden some sweet melody comes to my mind

Does your material feature any collaborations?

Yeah, I had a few collaborations so far, but mainly I’m focused on my own stuff.

I am also working as a ghost producer and mixdowns, so I’m in contact with a lot of folks around the globe.

What’s on your current playlist?

In my private life, I’m a nu metal/metal lover and have a specific taste. Love to hear nice vocals and harmonies. I’m a melody guy

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.

I’m mainly focused on music production at the moment with all this pandemic situation around the world. Receiving love and support on a daily basis from fans and dreamers. I really love to be in touch with them as much as I can.

What techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound?

As I said, I’m a melody guy and my focus is always on creating sweet, gentle, warm melodies. Playing a lot with the soft piano, pads and strings.

Take us through a day in the recording studio.

My day starts at 7am. Breakfast, coffee and studio time at around 9am. Working for about 3-6 hours, every day, except Saturday and Sunday, Weekends are off.

My advice for music producers out there is to set their working time, chill out and rest their ears and brain.

Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”?

I’ve been playing around with the music production from my high school days. One day I decided to send a demo (2009). After a few days/weeks, received an email from the label saying that they are interested to sign a 3 track EP. That was the moment when everything started for me as a music producer.

What do you keep close by while you’re playing a set?

Beer 🙂

What gets your creative juices flowing?

What drives me on is emotion. Daily life, people, situations, love.

Also what gives me motivation and ideas is riding my bicycle around my town (Novi Sad/ Serbia)

Any side projects you’re working on?

I work as ghost producer too. The situation today is not good for DJs and music producers, so you need to catch some cash always.

How have you refined your craft since you entered the industry?

Oh, my sound today is sooo different. Working more on mixdown and sound quality.

You need to learn always and stay updated with the trends and sound.

Break down the news for us: what can we expect from you this year?

There are a lot of remixes coming up on my Bandcamp and labels. The highlight is my EP on ADID.

Famous last words?

Be kind, be curious, fearless, be in love, hungry for success and ride your bike ! 🙂
