“ ‘VHS’ serves as a perfect intro to this multifaceted style of production. A lofty yet fleeting intro quickly gives way to a wavering bass line backed by crisp, understated percussion. Further layers are added as bright, glittery synth stabs mimic the undeniably groovy rhythm. The result is a uniquely hybrid piece of music, floating somewhere between glitch and lo-fi electronica; think Thom Yorke meets Russ Liquid and Mad Zach. And if that doesn’t pique your interest, we truly don’t know what will.”
‘THE AURA’ is the new album from electronic Russian artist Pavel Dovgal slated for release on the 25th November via Project Mooncircle. The album includes collaborations with Pavel’s old friends including Mujuice, Graciela Maria as well as some newly added artists, L.A. rapper BLU and Starving Yet Full (ex-vocalist from Azari III). Founder of the independent music label Monoclockmusic, Pavel became resident at the Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp in St. Petersburg, participated in the SKIF festival, performed live alongside Mujuice and Koloah at an event in Kiev aired live on RBMA Radio and was nominated for an Ethno Mechanic Award presented by the Sergey Kuryokhin Modern Art Center.
Pavel Dovgal was born in Vladivostok, Russia and moved to Ukraine at quite a young age, where he realized that his true calling was music. His music is experimental, surprising, and daring and his talent and hard work have brought him local musical success.
In 2010, the release of his first solo album “Cassiopeia” on Project Mooncircle turned this local success into international recognition.
In 2013 he released “Bedouin” on his own label Monoclockmusic. Pavel’s music is a trip into a fable and his medium is the music of different genres: electronica, folktronica, bass, glitch & sample cuts, hip hop, wonky and downbeat all brought together to form a montage of pictures. His work is freely spirited with hints of feelings, allusions, enigma and mystery. So far in his career Pavel has already worked with such renowned Russian and international musicians such as Robot Koch, John LaMonica, Mujuice, Long Arm, Assai Band, Ta-Ku, Pixelord, Graciela Maria, Ruslan Gadzhimuradov and the Synergy Orchestra.
‘THE AURA’ was inspired by extensive trips around Asia, hip-hop, jazz music of the 70’s, indie pop, ethnic African sounds and all kinds of electronic music. Pavel has also drawn influences from artists like Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmic Echoes, Miles Davis, Alice Coltrane, Bjork, Thom Yorke, Tony Scott and Curtis Mayfield.
“‘The Aura‘ and the belief in it can be found in almost all cultures in one form or another. Often signifying fields of energy and spirituality, an aura is a luminous radiational halo surrounding a person or object. It is said that all objects and all living things manifest such an aura. In other respects, the aura has also been described as a map of the thoughts and feelings surrounding a person. Pieced together from sounds and samples from all over the globe, the album’s aim is to charge listeners with harmony and a feeling of connectedness to the world. Reflecting on his own attitude towards life and the importance of inner balance, I attempt to share some of the spiritual experiences he made while traveling.” – says Dovgal.
‘THE AURA’ comes out worldwide on limited grey marbled vinyl.
