Very very different, I don’t think I’m going to listen to you guys and think it’s another band

These guys are gonna be mega

John Cooper Clarke

It is a rarity to find such a fresh band with such obvious authenticity and broad, retrospective lyrics. It is with that in mind that we are excited to welcome ‘You Are Here’; the first track to be taken from the upcoming Ordinary Noise EP (4th September). Summoning influence from Bob Dylan and Jeffery Lewis, the EP will showcase the boys’ undeniable grasp on mood and melody.

Lou Terry, Ross Connell, Malachi Siner-Cheverst and Jonny Poole first met whilst in different strand’s of education and have since been inseparable. Little over two years ago, Ordinary Noise were taking part in (and winning) a sixth form Battle Of The Bands contest at Colchester Arts Centre and today, they’re being played by Jarvis Cocker at BBC Radio 6 and BBC Introducing, supporting anti-folk cult heroes Jeffery Lewis and The Jrams and playing the mainstage at Hop Farm Festival.

The idea of this song is about the planet and how fragile it is. We were inspired by a video of the astronomer Carl Sagan discussing a photograph of the earth appearing as nothing but a tiny speck when taken from a satellite in orbit.

You Are Here’s verses remain expertly restrained before allowing the chorus to rupture into something distinctly powerful that has the hallmarks of the early folk pioneers. The track invites you on a journey of ambling guitars, rolling drums and the some of the most distinct vocals you’ll hear in 2015.  Alt J elegance and Tokyo Police Club meets Jack Steadman warbles dusted over an instrumental build up that screams David Bowie make up the key ingredients. Despite their somewhat tender years, there’s lyrical and musical maturity to it that is beyond impressive and demands to be heard.

You Are here is the result of intense focus and natural musical ability that reaches to the heart of their artistic expression. A force to be reckoned with, Ordinary Noise stand boldly apart from other offerings of its kind.
