Matias Aguayo and The Desdemonas release debut album ‘Sofarnopolis’

‘Nervous’ tells the story of a nightly encounter with a girl floating in purple light and glowing in the dark.

German-Chilean aural innovator Matias Aguayo stays away from any conventional accompaniment of composition when it comes to the epicentre that is his sound. The renowned electronic music producer and DJ, known for his his varied body of genre-defying work since the early 00s, has a new project. The Desdemonas is a 4-piece rock band, fronted by Aguayo, which will unfold on several levels.

The first track from the album ‘Nervous’ was recorded live at the Gewölbe in Cologne, and will appear in Matias Aguayo & The Desdemonas’ LP Sofarnopolis, which will be released in October 2017 on Crammed Discs. It tells the story of a nightly encounter with a girl floating in purple light and glowing in the dark. It’s a scene from Sofarnopolis’ dystopian narrative, which will also be unfold in cartoons and videos based on Matias’ drawings.

The project outlines a fictional story about a group of teenagers in a dystopian world. Matias digs deep into some dark forms of rock music which inspired him as a teenager, and brilliantly revisits them in a moody, compelling, post-electronic 2017 style.

Based in Berlin, the band will be touring around Europe and beyond, starting before the album’s release and continuing through 2018. Their line-up consists of drummer Matteo Scrimali from Italy, keyboard player Henning Specht from Germany, guitarist/bass player Gregorio Gomez from Colombia, and Matias Aguayo on vocals, keys etc.

Matias Aguayo has worked on several albums with legendary Cologne-based electronic music label Kompakt. A much in-demand DJ, he’s constantly been performing all around the world, making appearances at the most prestigious festivals. He’s started his own imprint, Cómeme, on which he’s released works by friends and associates and has always been an original, iconoclastic artist: starting out “the man who helped popularize and expand minimal [techno]” (Pitchfork).

Stay tuned for Matias Aguayo & The Desdemonas’ debut LP Sofarnopolis out on Crammed Discs on 13 October 2017
