Exclusive: 5 Minutes with Aisha Zoe

Aisha Zoe (formally of AZ & Tor) has been working on some incredible music lately, and so we knew we had to have a chat with her as she gets ready for some massive projects.

Hi there, how are you and what are you up to today?

Just been training for my samba course over the weekend at the gym. I have then made a delicious carrot, ginger and orange juice, and picked up a CD briefcase, preparing for my gig next week. I have lots of various mixes, Brazilian, house, Rnb mixes to record. I am also working on lots of music and emailing briefs to my beautiful soul sister artists.

To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?

Familiar in a sensual way and distant in a “Hang on a minute,” way.

Can you the name albums and artists that have influenced you the most?

Bahamadia, Maspyke, Amy Winehouse, Amel Larrieux, D’Angelo, Stanley Black, Chaka Demus & Pliers.

Which other artists are you into at the moment and why?

JoiStarr & Karriem Riggins – Impatient, I heard it and can’t download anywhere. It is driving me wild I adore her saxophonic voice on this exquisitely moreish fluid beat from Mr Riggins. Also the hook is “Do you wanna baby,” I admire the boldness and wondering if she has any kids now after all it came out on her Broccoli an Noodles tape 4 years ago.

What would we find under the category of “Guilty pleasures” in your music collection?

Lemar – Dance With You, I have no shame.

Where do you gather song writing inspiration?

From Mi Vida Loca.

What’s the best gig you have ever done and why?

On A Boatparty at Outlook. It was a stunning atmosphere and setting. I was astounded by how uniting the force of the music was, I felt like we were all at one. I also believe the best is yet to come and not compare as best or worst as they all are part of development.

If you weren’t a musician what would you be?

I am already a teacher, so I guess that or a Samba Dancer I love that too.

Do you have any particular gigs or festivals that you dream about playing?

Dimensions, and worldwide festival.

If you could perform alongside any other band or artist, who would it be?

Kelela, Erykah Badu, Bucie, Karizma, Dj Spinna, Theo Parrish, Andrew Ashong, Little Dragon.
