Dutch electronic duo DOOXS will be releasing their debut EP, “Under My Tongue” on the 25 November via OO Records and we’re delighted to host the video premiere of one of the cuts “DIRT”.
Rotterdam-based singer and songwriter Djoeke and producer Aniek unique sound consists of bringing together their love for ambient, techno and IDM whilst fusing elements of R&B and indie-folk. Experimentation, rule-bending and merging of genres has made their sound altogether infinitely interesting. Djoeke’s airy, light vocals are mesmerising, almost trance-inducing, seamlessly drifting on top of dark synths, icy electronics, minimal beats and deep basses leaves one breathless.
DOOXS had this to say about “Under My Tongue”; “This EP was entirely created by ourselves and we are extremely proud of it. We started working with each other only in August 2015, so it has all happened pretty fast. The lyrics deal with topics as vulnerability and intimacy and are quite visually oriented. The production is a mixture of downtempo genres like hip-hop, dub and trap and relying heavily on the editing of Djoeke’s vocals and mashing them into synths and background textures. Our musical inspirations include Clams Casino, Andy Stott, Balam Acab, Nosaj Thing, 18+ and Fever Ray.”
The video for “DIRT” presents a collection of simple, intimate chiaroscuro sequences to compliment the lyrical territory of the song. Minimal, black and white, slow, and often in reverse, we’re graced by two masked, skin-clad female subjects being drizzled in (admittedly tasty-looking) syrups. The masks come off, and a later sequence shows off the graceful feminine motion of lightweight fabric in the wind.
