It’s hard to say what to make of Zedd these days. When he first appeared, he was a unique and talented young producer whose tunes were loved for their grinding bass sounds and classical compositions. But after tasting fame and success, he has quickly began to turn his back on his old sound in favour of creating the same boring EDM as everyone else.
His latest release ‘Clarity’, featuring the vocals of Foxes, is still a catchy piece of dance trash, but in the end, it is still trash. This ‘EDM by numbers’ strategy has resulted in a sound that could quite clearly be anyone on the scene. Nothing about this stands out as a Zedd record and simply fades into the background of all the other commercial dance music being produced today.
A disappointing and under-produced release from Zedd that comes as a surprise as we all know he is capable of so much more. But it’ll probably sell like hot cakes.
