Alex Metric is one of the UK’s most technically brilliant producers we have heard in a while. From his club-ready remixes to his more contemporary original work, Alex Metric has always looked to break from conventional molds and create bold and interesting club music. Now with the latest of his ‘Ammunition’ series of EPs set to drop on US juggernaut OWSLA, Part 3 could be the final snapshot of productions before we finally get our debut studio release.
But as a collection of tracks, ‘Ammunition Pt. 3’ is a concise and technically brilliant smorgasbord of inspiration and ingenuity. All four tracks ‘Illium’, ‘Want Ya’, 'Rave Weapon 2' and ‘Scandelism’ have this almost chronological feel to their placement within the EP, as if each track were composed in order to be played at the beginning, middle and end of a night. ‘Illium’, featuring Mark Yardley, brings in the beat hard and warms you up, while ‘Want Ya’ ups the ante and pulls the EP up to its musical zenith. ‘Scandalism’ slows the pace right down and emulates a great sense of electronic euphoria that long-term fans will associate with Metric’s previous work, before 'Rave Weapon 2' brings in a downright dirty piece of electro bass that tells you its time to go home.
An accomplishment to say the least, but coming from such a well-rounded and experienced producer, we would have expected little else. Bring on the album!
