Preview: Digitalism Takeover Heaven’s Stage Tonight

Long hailed by many as ‘Hamburg’s answer to The Klaxons’ – Digitalism have acquired a loyal following since releasing their first EP Blitz, on the stylish French house label Kitsuné Music back in 2007. As other similar artists like Erol Alkan, were blurring the lines between indie and dance music in the mid noughties, Germany’s cult electro outfit of choice, were busy producing thumping electro club tracks.

Digitalism first met by chance in a record store and joined forces as a DJ team, Jens Moelle and Ismail Tuefekci decided to create dance music together but in the unique form of a band. Inspired by Daft Punk, they also included a real live drummer to the lineup. The single “Idealistic” introduced the band in 2004. Follow-up singles “Zdarlight” (2005) and “Jupiter Room” (2006) gained more fans, as electro-indie’s dancefloor presence was increasing, the timing was perfect.

After being signed to Toshiba EMI and completing a world tour, they returned in 2010, then in 2011 they joined the V2 imprint with their album I Love You Dude. The Magnetism Recording Co. signed the group in 2016 and now they’re set to return to London this evening at the legendary LGBT friendly venue Heaven, (The Arches) as part of the European tour to mark their widely hailed recent album The Mirage (released 13th May). This latest offering explores Eno-esque territories, and is also equally reminiscent of M83’s emotional crescendos (but sadly without the catchy hooks). They will be supported by Madame (Boysnoize Records), and Get a room! (Small Time Cuts / Partyfine). Catch them while there’re in town!
