New Blur album… may never be released?!

Damon Albarn has admitted that the rumoured new Blur album may never surface.

Speaking to NME earlier this year, Albarn mentioned that Blur had recorded 15 new songs, however he quashed our hopes by adding “Just because you record 15 ideas doesn’t mean you have an album.” Months after the interview Albarn has now outrightly stated that the album will not be released.

The new material was recorded in Hong Kong but Albarn, at the time, was unable to write lyrics. Albarn believes that this is the reason why the material will be shelved.

“There are about 15 songs we recorded in Hong Kong. The annoying thing is, if I’d been able to write the lyrics there and then about being there, we’d have finished the record. But sometimes, if you can’t do it all at once, it dissipates really and I don’t know what I’d sing about now with that record.”

He further adds, “There was too much commuting between where we were staying and where we were recording and it was a bit too hot. I think that’s why we didn’t get it finished.”

Damon Albarn was however successful with releasing his latest solo work earlier this year, “Everyday Robots.”
