It's going to be a hectic year to come for Thibaut Berland- better known under his DJ pseudonym: Breakbot. He rides the same wave as Ed Banger labelmates Justice and SebastiAn, performing at legendary American festival Coachella later this year, billed above the likes of The Vaccines and Wolf Gang. It's safe to say that stateside, Breakbot has hit the jackpot.
There have been a string of singles released over the past couple of years, earning Breakbot a dedicated fanbase around the world and giving him the chance to jetset off across every corner of the globe- the Parisian producer has recently returned from his first trip to Brazil, to give them a taste of his disco-infused electro. Singles such as 80s-tinged Baby I’m Yours and the funktastic Fantasy achieved dedicated rotation at clubs, and now we've had a tease of what music Breakbot can make, his adoring public are clamouring for something meatier. Thankfully, then, he announced the completion of his long-awaited debut album over twitter late last month.
Chromeo, Metronomy and Sébastien Tellier have all had tracks given a Breakbot makeover, as well as many others. There's a good chance you've heard his remixes before you've heard any of his own music- PNAU and Röyksopp both have had high-profile reworkings of their tracks (Breakbot's remix of Baby by PNAU is featured on Gran Turismo 5), with Breakbot giving them a healthy dose of his signature French electronica sound- the smooth, earthy bass and lounge piano riffs becoming a glorious recurring theme.
Expect his album to drop later this year, although no due date has been established as of yet.
