When theses 3 French musicians decided to pack up their berets and palettes and bring their take on post-punk to London in 2004, little did they know what would be in store in 2009.

With every great band comes a great struggle on the underground scene and this is no less of Underground Railroad. Bassist JB Gavinet speaks of a show in Leicester where “we drove for ten hours and when we arrived at the venue there was a Post-It on the door: ‘Sorry, gig cancelled’. The promoter hadn’t even bothered to ring us.”-Penny Black Music

And these stories are not far and few between:

"We played the Radio One Introducing... tent. One band were advertised at 5pm as “the FF’ers” and this huge crowd, 3000 people, turned up thinking it was going to be a secret gig by Dave Grohl’s band. But they weren’t - they were a real band. When it wasn’t the Foo Fighters everyone got really angry, throwing stuff at them - bottles, cans, shoes - and they had to leave the stage. Then we were due on and it was still heaving with angry fans. The security guys said to us, 'It’s chaos out there, do you really want to go on stage?' Then the crowd started throwing cans and bottles at us."-Interview for Penny Black Music

"And we started throwing them back", continues guitarist Marion Andrau, shivering in the miserable, early autumn drizzle. "It was like a war."

Having paid their dues to mainstream status playing from corner to corner of London’s underground scene and releasing debut album Twisted Trees in 2005 on One Little Indian Records, their current release ‘Sticks and Stones’ has received wide critical acclaim from the likes of NME, The Fly, Zane Lowe, Metro and Radio 1:

“Black-hearted avant punk… whiplashing climaxes.”-Metro
“ A sound to frighten Gallows back into the tattoo parlour.”-The Fly

Luckily for us, they’re stopping off at 93 Feet East on July 25th to headline The Playground club night.

Look out for EP ‘Pick The Ghost’ out on limited release and Undergournd Railroad’s unabashed, epic live show as the band road-test their material up and down the island.
